Overview
Salasar Balaji Temple, located in the town of Salasar in Churu district, Rajasthan, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Unlike traditional depictions, the idol here is unique for its round face, mustache, and beard, believed to be the only such representation in India.
The temple's origins trace back to 1754 AD when a farmer named Mohandas discovered a stone idol of Lord Hanuman while plowing his field in the nearby village of Asia. After offering churma (a sweet dish) to the idol, he had a vision where Lord Hanuman instructed him to establish the idol at a specific location. Following the divine guidance, the idol was placed where two bulls halted, and the Salasar Balaji Temple was constructed.
Why Famous Salasar Balaji
Unique Idol of Hanuman Ji
The idol of Lord Hanuman at Salasar Balaji is distinctively different — it has a round face, beard, and mustache, unlike the clean-shaven appearance seen in other temples. This rare depiction is believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu) and holds immense spiritual power.
Powerful Wish-Fulfilling Temple
Devotees believe that sincere prayers at Salasar Balaji are answered, especially related to health, family, and financial issues. The tradition of tying coconuts with red thread (moli) on the khejri tree in the temple complex is a symbolic act of wish fulfillment.
Savamani Offering Tradition
One of the most famous rituals is “Savamani”, where about 50 kg of food, such as dal baati churma, laddus, and boondi, is offered to the deity. This food is later distributed among pilgrims and the poor, representing devotion, service, and charity.
Major Fairs & Festivals
During Hanuman Jayanti, Chaitra Purnima, and Ashvin Purnima, lakhs of devotees gather from across India. The temple becomes a hub of religious activities, devotional singing, and community meals, creating a vibrant spiritual atmosphere.
Spiritual Energy & Faith
Salasar is considered a Shakti Sthal (spiritual energy center) where people report feeling calm, energized, and emotionally healed. It is visited not just by Hanuman devotees but also by followers from all over India seeking divine intervention.
Accessibility and Pilgrimage Circuit
Salasar Balaji is part of the “Balaji Triangle”, which includes Mehandipur Balaji, Khatushyam Ji, and Salasar Balaji — three major Hanuman and Krishna temples in Rajasthan. Many pilgrims do this circuit as part of a spiritual journey.
